After grappling for 38 verses in Psalm 37 with the prosperity of evil and the adversity of the righteous David’s conclusion is the success of evil is only apparent and the failure of the righteous is only seemingly so. Iniquity is mortal, righteousness is immortal. He ends the psalm with these words.

39 The Lord rescues the godly;
    he is their fortress in times of trouble.

40 The Lord helps them,
    rescuing them from the wicked.
He saves them,
    and they find shelter in him. Psalm 37:39-40 NLT
