God sent his Spirit to lead his children in the path of truth. The word of God is the only place to find truth in this out of control, media inundated world. The Spirit of God works in conjunction with the written word. We must study the Bible prayerfully and allow the Bible to interpret itself. We need to strive to come to God’s word without bias. It is important that we never just use one text as our authority but investigate all the verses related to a topic before we can see the truth concealed there. In the 70’s a serious theological debate began in our church. I was just a young woman with no theological training but I tried to understand the issues. I couldn’t seem to comprehend the intricacies, so I went to God in prayer. I asked for his Spirit to open my mind and teach me what it was all about. For quite some time I read, I thought and I prayed over the subject and God did exactly what he promised. He taught me the truth about the passage. We can trust God’s Spirit to lead us when we earnestly seek for truth, and our understanding of truth determines our destiny.
