Everyday Promises – 153

JESUS OUR ANCHOR

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure… Hebrews 6:19 NIV

Burke was a criminal with a record as long as the street outside the prison. One day the jailer threw a copy of the local paper into his cell. He saw the words: HOW THE JAILER AT PHILLIPI WAS CAUGHT. I know that town near Chicago,” he thought. “I know the jailer, he’s a nasty fellow. I wonder what rap they got him on?”  He began to read only to discover it was a word for word record of a Dwight L Moody sermon. He came to the words, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.’ He threw the paper down in disgust but that night he could not get the words out of his mind. He wrestled with them for hours until he finally fell to his knees and asked God to forgive his sins and save him. Burkes’ life was transformed. He had found the anchor for his soul. Jesus the righteous one. Burke never went back to his life of crime. We too can put our lives into Jesus care, for he is the firm and secure anchor for the soul.
