The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8 NIV
I have travelled on many trains in my life. Commuting to church, school, university and on holidays. When I graduated high school, I went to a Christian College in another state and so travelled the trains overnight to and from home, for each term break. It was on one of the XPT overnight trips to Melbourne that I met a young sailor. From the moment we met there was a certain magic in our friendship. We talked easily about every topic. It was a lovely evening. We wanted to keep in touch, so near journey’s end we exchanged contact details and then he left for a Naval Base, and I went home. We had hoped to meet up before long. Unfortunately, a few days later I received a lovely bouquet of flowers and a letter to say he was being transferred far away. It was a fleeting joy that lasted only a moment. Our lives and everything we experience are but fleeting moments like a flowering bush or a chance encounter. Not so with God, he is eternal. His word, his being, his kingdom will last forever. You can safely trust your life to his care, for his love for you is as enduring as his throne.
