When I was about 8 I moved into a new school and a new neighbourhood. At school that first day I saw a little girl who had lovely curly brown hair. For some reason I decided that she should be my friend. Her name was Janet. My great idea of friendship did not work out quite how I expected however, for Janet was changeable. Sometimes she considered me a friend but sometimes I was neglected and ignored. I never knew what reception I would get when I arrived at school. It was painful and discouraging. Eventually I distanced myself entirely from her and my life became happier. How wonderful it is to know that the God we honour, worship and trust is unchanging. The Bible tells us that he is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. That is how he treats all his children all the time. He is unfailingly kind, loving and good. We can rest our lives on his steadfastness and feel secure, happy and at peace.
