Everyday Promises – 69

OUR COMPASSIONATE GOD

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Psalm 103:10 NIV

I would like to share with you a passage from the book Desire of Ages, ” Peter now denied his Master with cursing and swearing. Again the cock crew. Peter heard it then, and he remembered the words of Jesus, “Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny Me thrice.” While the degrading oaths were fresh upon Peter’s lips, and the shrill crowing of the cock was still ringing in his ears, the Saviour turned from the frowning judges, and looked full upon His poor disciple. At the same time Peter’s eyes were drawn to his Master. In that gentle countenance he read deep pity and sorrow, but there was no anger there. The sight of that pale, suffering face, those quivering lips, that look of compassion and forgiveness, pierced his heart like an arrow.” We too, have wounded the heart of God by denying him with our evil deeds and our wayward lives. We deserve punishment and death but our compassionate Saviour is willing to forgive all who turn to him in repentance. With a heart of love for each failing and faulty human he bids us to come. Come and be changed, forgiven and enclosed in the loving arms of the Almighty.
