Paul’s Footsteps #139

Footsteps #139

Do you have unanswered questions? Read 1Cor.13:9-12 in the NLT. Compare your current knowledge with the knowledge you shall be granted in God’s eternal future? The revelations of God in Christ are not inaccurate, but our understanding of them is limited, “like puzzling reflections” (v12NLT.) Something we CAN be sure about; Eph.1:18-20.

We cannot claim to know more than God has revealed, but we should thank God we do know, even if only in part. My friends in Christ, the objects we look at are distant, and we are nearsighted. The revelation of God is ample and profound, but our understanding is weak and shallow. What we now see “dimly” will one day be “face to face.” Then we shall understand fully! True faith is trusting God with the final outcome, despite our present circumstances. The vessel of life sometimes is boarded by the buccaneer of the universe and he would seek to rob us of our treasure: the riches of eternity!  Sometimes the journey is tumultuous and the waves are treacherous. Remember Matt.14:22; Jesus had ascended on high, and the disciples were struggling alone on the unrestrained sea, being “beaten by the waves and the wind” (v24.) The Lord of all creation comes, the waves under his feet!

When the sea is rough and your boat is being tossed to and fro and your life has become a struggle with fear overwhelming you, remember Jesus is always there to help and save. If your faith is weak say to yourself, “Be my feelings what they will, Jesus is my saviour still.” In Matt.14:22-33 Jesus gave the frightened disciples a 3-fold faith-sustaining formula: between the charge to ‘be courageous’ (v27) and the counsel to ‘fear not,’ stands the person of Jesus, ‘It is I.’ In Greek, the ‘ego eimi’ is the self-disclosure of the “I am,” – the Almighty God (the literal translation.) This is the affirmation of His presence in the storms of life. Walking the path of discipleship without fear requires that our eyes be fixed on the “I am.” When Peter wavered (v29) he cried out. Such a cry never goes unanswered. Even in failure, Peter knew where to reach!
