Zechariah means one whom Yahweh remembers. It is the book of hope in a troubled time! 520BC. Zech 3:2 “The Lord said to satan, “the Lord rebuke you, oh satan! The Lord who has chosen rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?”… apart from Isa 53 no other part of the Old Testament better reveals the wonderful truth of justification by faith than does Zechariah 3 (read it). Joshua means the Lord saves and is the Hebrew version of Jesus. Notice v4 – your iniquity (sin)has been taken away and in v5 a new robe was given, like the prodigal son when the father gave him a new robe. This represents the perfect righteousness that we are given when we accept Christ. We are covered in His perfection, and that is our perfect standing before the law. It is not what we do but what He has done that saves us.
