Celestial Elevators and Black holes. Part 1.
Have you ever wondered how angels (God’s messengers) are able to travel between ‘heaven’ and earth almost instantaneously. Angels are described in the Bible as spiritual beings with supernatural abilities that enable them to transcend the physical laws of the natural world and are not bound by the limitations of time, space, or physical matter. It seems that they are able also to step from one dimension to another.
I once watched an astronomy documentary on wormholes and it seemed to answer this question very well, even though the presenter was making no attempt to explain angel travel. Wormholes are hypothetical structures in spacetime that are often depicted in science fiction as shortcuts or “tunnels” between distant points in the universe. While they are purely theoretical at this point and have not been observed or proven to exist, they emerge from the equations of general relativity, a theory of gravity developed by Albert Einstein. Science fiction has certainly taken up Einstein’s theory of relativity on this point.
The concept of wormholes being likened to celestial elevators comes from the idea that they could potentially offer a way to traverse vast cosmic distances much more quickly than conventional methods of travel. Think of an elevator that connects different floors in a building; in a similar manner, a wormhole could connect two distant regions of spacetime with a shortcut.
To do this, imagine the fabric of spacetime as a two-dimensional surface. Normally, traveling between two distant points in the universe would require moving along this surface, taking a curved path due to the presence of gravity. However, a wormhole could be envisioned as a tunnel that directly connects two points, effectively creating a shortcut through spacetime. With a wormhole, you could potentially bypass the need to traverse the vast distances in space conventionally. For example, if there were a wormhole connecting Earth and a distant star, a spaceship entering the mouth of a wormhole on Earth could exit at the other end near the distant star, effectively bypassing the millions of light-years that would typically be required to travel between them. This would be a huge time saver!
Because wormholes create shortcuts in spacetime, they could significantly reduce travel time to reach far-off destinations. This is where the analogy to an elevator becomes useful. Instead of taking the stairs to move between floors, you use an elevator to quickly transport yourself to your desired level. Similarly, a wormhole could allow for rapid transit between distant regions of the universe. Of course, I do not know if this is how angels travel, but it certainly opened the possibility in my mind.
