18 Jan Whispering Eternity #38
Day 38.
So what kind of brain does the honeybee have? You’ve probably heard the question “What is the last thing to go through a bee’s mind when it hits your windscreen?” the answer being it’s back legs. But how does this tiny creature learn to relate sun angles and distance to dance step routines, and how come all the bees all over the world understand only one language. Who could dare to say all this happened by accident?
If you wanted to duplicate the internal circuitry of the honey bee and match its navigational guidance system you would need an internal clock, a polarised light sensor, a sun angle-azimuth computer, an instrument for measuring true vertical, you would need dead reckoning equipment, a wind speed direction indicator, trigonometric calculator and tables plus air and ground speed indicators, then you would need a sophisticated computer to co-ordinate it all.
Bees don’t exist without flowers and many flowers don’t exist without bees. So how could all this happen just a bit at a time? It is much easier to believe the straightforward statement that we find in the first page of the bible “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Up until this point we have considered the evidence for a creator, but we could mention that our earth is far from perfect. There is trouble in this world. There are vast deserts, shrieking wastelands, ice covered rock continents, earthquakes, tornadoes, forest fires, droughts and floods. All of these ravish the earth’s resources and beauty. Animals devour one another, poisonous plants, animals and insects abound. There are thorns on plants, horns on animals, leaches in our bush, barbs on our words and evil in our hearts.
Many humans are bent on destroying each other, our planet and everything living around them. There is sickness, old age, death and many more horrors that exist than can be imagined. This is a world of contrasts. The evidence points to a creation marred by something we call sin! The world has become subject to the bondage and decay that sin brought. Scripture says the whole creation is groaning waiting for the change that is to come from the redemption promised in Christ. (Romans 8:18-25). While the beauty of creation has been marred by sin, and this planet has become an orbiting cemetery, God has promised and provided a way of escape. He has predicted the end of this planet and explained the reasons behind its history. He has talked to us of a new earth and a new creation, which will not have any of the effects of sins curse. (Revelation 21:1-4). Is this a hope worth grasping? Your way of escape has been provided free of charge, your place in the earth made new is assured not because of anything you can achieve but because of what Christ has achieved on your behalf. It is a gift. (Romans 6:23)
