18 Jan Whispering Eternity #47
Day 47.
Regarding my spiritual life, I went through 4 or 5 years of complete and utter turmoil. If the ship is in the stormy sea that’s one thing, but when the stormy sea gets in the ship that’s another problem. My vessel began to leak. I was sitting low in the water. But something got me through. I think it was prayer and God. I like to think so any way. Trusting God with the outcome of life’s events and indeed the main event of eternity is what the relationship is all about. “Prayer warriors” spend hours in prayer and intersession. It’s one of the gifts of the spirit. I don’t have it! I have other gifts and I do use those. However, I can “pray with out ceasing” (Eph 6:18) by including God in every moment of my day, with a continual chatty dialogue (inaudible at this stage but that may change as I get older.) There is no set biblical formula for how we relate to God except for maybe Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)That’s a principle not a formula.
The key thing is my relationship with God is not the same as yours, and neither should it be. We are all different, so it only stands to reason that I am going to relate to God differently to you and so I should not expect your prayer life or your relationship to fit into my mold or any other mold – be yourself before God, that’s what he wants. Don’t guilt trip on someone else’s ideal for your life, that’s their relationship, it works for them and so they think it should work for you. Get of the performance treadmill of trying to live your Christian experience the way others say you should and just seek God, but seek Him first! (Matt 6:33. NKJV) My prayer journey began on a hill far away, years before I became a Christian pilgrim. I am now on my way to something far better. A place where sin, sickness and death will be no more. TBC.
