Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 NIV
In the book In God’s Underground, Richard Wurmbrand suffered terribly at the hands of the Romanian Communist Government for being a Christian. For about 8 and half years he was imprisoned. He endured interrogations, privations, torture and solitary confinement. Yet on his release he wrote these words “Don’t think I simply come from misery to happiness! I’ve come from the joy of being with Christ in prison to the joy of being with him in my family.” God used Richard in prison to shine a light for him in the darkness. He suffered unimaginable horrors but the presence of Jesus was his stay. Your dark valley may not be as extreme as Richard’s but it can feel just as deep, black and empty. Your choice to commune with God can bring comfort, strength and release from even the deepest pit, for Jesus will be with you.
