Everyday Promises – 122

Taste and See

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8 NIV

Ever heard the words “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”? That is exactly what this promise is saying. We can’t say a pudding is yummy unless we try it and see. There is no evidence in the shop window or in the fridge. Only by taking a slice and really eating it can we say a pudding is lovely. So how does one taste God? You can’t find out how good God is by going to church, by being friends with Christians or by asking him for a miracle in a desperate situation. You must experience him by earnestly seeking to know him as a friend, through prayer, Bible reading, and by claiming his promises and seeing his responses. You will find that God is love and the greatest evidence for this is in the death of Jesus, his son, on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins. He is also caring, compassionate, patient, and kind in all his dealings with us. He is strong, powerful and mighty when we are in trouble and need help. We will be blessed indeed if we take refuge in him and trust our lives to him always. Then we will be able to attest personally, that the Lord is good.
