Everyday Promises – 134

GOOD GIFTS FROM GOD

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:9-11 NIV

We were shifting and my employment would no longer be within walking distance. I only had $5000 and with this sum I needed to buy a good, reliable car. My husband was fond of auctions and so determined to buy a car there. On the day of the auction we walked around looking at and hearing many cars run, and the hope of buying a good vehicle seemed to grow more and more impossible. How could we ever choose the right car? I prayed as I walked but seemed no nearer a solution. The sale began and I became a little anxious. I pleaded with God to show me which car would be the best. Suddenly, I was impressed to get the maroon Magna we had looked at in the course of the day. I went quickly to my husband and told him I wanted the maroon Magna. It was driven into view a few minutes later. When the bidding started we made a bid, and then another. The price climbed steadily. Our last possible bid was $5000, all that we had. Miraculously, that turned out to be the final bid. The car was ours and became my faithful transport for many years. How good God is! He cares about our needs and even our wants. He loves to give his children good gifts. So ask! See just how wonderful our God is.
