“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2 Kings 6:16 NIV
Elisha and his servant were in Dothan, a walled city in the land of Israel. The servant looked over the city wall one morning and saw a vast army surrounding it. He cried out, “Oh no, my lord. What shall we do?” He was filled with fear. Interestingly, Elisha was not surprised and seemed untroubled. He casually said, “Don’t be afraid!” … “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” The army was from Aram and the king was determined to capture Elisha. With God’s help, Elisha had been telling the king of Israel all the king of Aram’s battle plans. Elisha prayed that God would open the eyes of his servant. The servant then saw the flaming chariots of an enormous heavenly army, standing ready. All of a sudden the odds were on his side. Sometimes we face immense troubles in our lives but God says, “Don’t be afraid.” He has a thousand ways to help us out of our problems. I pray the Father will open your eyes to see his mighty hand at work on your behalf. Trust him! He loves you and will not fail you.
