It is possible to die in quicksand, not because it sucks you right under but because it is almost impossible to pull yourself out. Without help you can drown when the tide comes in or because of exhaustion and hypothermia. Addictions like drugs, alcohol, pornography or gambling and some other disorders like anorexia can be like quicksand. Without help it seems impossible to get out of the cycle. I once knew a girl who had anorexia and it was destroying her body but she could not escape. As a Christian she decided to ask God to help her. She spent hours in prayer asking God to give her the desire to eat. Then she would go immediately to the fridge and eat something. It took a long time but gradually God helped her to get out of the deadly spiral. God longs to help anyone stuck in the mire. He may lead you to help agencies or give you power through prayer, or both. He wants all his children to have a fulfilled and happy life. So if you are stuck – ask the Lord to lift you out, and he will do amazing things.
