Everyday Promises – 182

We have a lawyer

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 1 John 2:1 NIV

The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is our lawyer, priest and advocate. The priest in the Old Testament tabernacle service, represented the people before God to ask for the forgiveness of their sins. Hebrews tells us, that Jesus, after his perfect sacrifice on the cross, has now taken that priestly role on himself before God, in the courts of heaven. ‘For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. Heb 9:24.’ That is why we have an advocate with the Father. When we make a mistake, when we choose our own way, when we wilfully disobey God’s law, if we come to Jesus, sincerely sorry for our error, he steps up as our lawyer and defends us. He presents his own holy life, in the place of our sinful life, and we are forgiven and accepted by the Father. Jesus loves you. He died for you. No matter what you have done, it can be forgiven. Go to the Saviour, for his arms are open wide for you.  He can represent you in the courts above and he never loses a case.
