The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. Psalm 146:9 NIV
A widow came to the prophet Elisha asking for help. Her husband had passed away leaving considerable debts and the creditor threatened to sell her children to pay the debt. The only thing she had in her house was a little oil, so the prophet instructed her to go home and using the jar of oil, fill up every empty container she could find. He said “Don’t do just a few.” After filling all her own empty containers, her boys scampered around town gathering any empty vessels they could find. Not until every empty jar in the whole village was full did the oil stop. The prophet then told the widow to sell the oil, pay her debts and live on the rest. God has a tender interest in all his children, especially the vulnerable, the downtrodden and the needy. He is ready to help any who call on him and his provision is abundant.
