Everyday Promises – 200

Go in secret

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6 NIV

In the time of Jesus there were many very religious people in Israel. The leaders particularly loved to display their piety by praying long, loud prayers in public. Everything they did was for show. Pride was at the seat of their display. In reality they had nothing to bring to God except the filthy rags of sin and they returned home in the same condition. We too have nothing to parade about. Our lives are littered with the grime of a sinful heart. It is only by going humbly, secretly, to confess our sins and ask for help that we can be rewarded by God. His forgiveness is more to be desired than gold or silver, for it will lift the heavy burdens that weigh down the soul and bring inexpressible joy to our lives. So go in secret and our Father in heaven will bless you abundantly.
