Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 1 Timothy 6:17 NIV
The tragic story of the Titanic is a timely reminder that wealth or importance cannot save. Some of the world’s wealthiest and most important people died on the night of April 14/15, 1912. Although the captain is attributed with the words “Not even God could sink this ship.” it sank within 2 hours of running against an iceberg in the North Atlantic Sea. The iceberg caused a 200-foot gash in the hull and the lifeboats were insufficient for the number of people on board. John Jacob Astor, then considered to be the world’s richest man, perished in the icy waters. The only hope of surviving in this dark world is to put our hope in God. He alone can save. Put your trust in his mighty power. You will not be disappointed.
