Everyday Promises – 230

By his wounds we are healed

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 NIV

This messianic passage in Isaiah was penned about 760BC, yet Isaiah 53 tells us everything the Saviour would suffer and accomplish at the cross. The words are potent and powerful, sad and yet inspiring. This verse shows the great trade off at the cross. He was pierced, crushed and wounded so that we could be healed, forgiven and set free. God risked the security of his dominion to redeem us. There is no greater power in the universe than the love of God. He does not force, bully or berate us. To respect our free will he can only draw us with his tender care. You can find healing in the arms of God, for everything that troubles your heart matters to the Master. Don’t turn away from the greatest gift you will ever be offered. Look to the Saviour and live.
