Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV

What astounds me about this passage is the generosity of God. Although it is not a promise, it is a gem. Maybe we ask too little of God. He does not want us to be selfish but he also wants us to ask him for the things we need and the things we would like. Jabez implored God for more territory, His presence, protection and health. Do we, not all want these blessings in our life? Why not ask God? He has a storehouse of treasures he yearns to bestow. The Lord has promised that if we love him, he will give us the desires of our heart. Perhaps we do not allow God the joy of giving special gifts to his children, because we do not call on him. God will never over-ride our human will and force his benefits on us. We must request them. So, commit your life to God and ask him for his favour, because he longs to pour out his bounty on you.
