You (God) are good, and what you do is good;… Psalm 119:68 NIV
In January, 1962, when I was 7, devastating fires caused havoc around the outskirts of Melbourne. It killed 32 people, and destroyed 450 homes. Our good friends lived at Warrandyte, right in the path of the fire. When that dear mother heard on the radio, that the inferno had jumped the Yarra River, she knew that she and the children must leave immediately. Mother gathered her 5 children together and prayed earnestly that God would protect them. Then carrying the youngest children, the family ran to the nearest neighbour’s place, the fire approaching rapidly behind them. They got a ride to our home. where their dad found them the next day. Soon we all went to see what had happened. There in the middle of the charred, black earth stood the little weatherboard house. The fire had burned to within a 30cm of the walls on every side and destroyed everything around it. God in his great goodness preserved that little house. We can depend on the goodness of God to see us through our toughest times. Call on him when you are in need, for he loves you.
