In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. Exodus 15:13 NIV
We celebrate the amazing feat of Sir Edmund Hilary on being the first man to conquer Mt Everest, on May 29, 1953. However, neither he nor any other climber who reaches the summit can do it without the bravery and wisdom of a Sherpa guide. Some days before the final ascent Edmund fell into a crevasse but was saved by Tenzing’s prompt action of securing the rope with his ice axe, so that Edmund did not hit the bottom. Out of a large party of climbers, only 2 went to the peak. Sherpa Tenzing was the intrepid mountaineer, who made it possible for Edmund Hilary to reach the top of the highest mountain in the world. Sherpa guides plot the safest route, go ahead to secure any climbing aides, set up camps, assist climbers with oxygen, and most often lead the way. Like scaling a mountain, we are on a climb to God’s heavenly kingdom, but we will never get there safely without Jesus leading the way. His unfailing love and mighty strength can help us with any difficulties and lead us safely home.
