Everyday Promises – 240

Eternal stability

I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him. Ecclesiastes 3:14 NIV

I had a friend who was living in Darwin when Cyclone Tracey ripped through the city on Christmas Eve, 1974. She had been at a party and so remained there until the cyclone passed. When she went to her apartment, she found only the door still standing. Every single thing she owned was gone. Everything in this life is transitory. Friends come and go; people pass away or move to other locations. We can lose our job unexpectantly, or sickness surprises us. Wars and disasters rob us of our homes, our livelihood and our possessions. More and more we live in such instability. This promise reminds us that there is only one stable thing – and that is God. He endures forever and his love for us is eternal. We can depend on him. He will see us through all we face. He is a refuge in every storm – solid, stable and enduring. One day soon he will rescue us, so keep trusting.
