When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Exodus 33:22 NIV
On one of my trips into the Australian outback I went on a tour to the Bungle Bungles, in Western Australia. Made from layers of coloured rock that tower into the sky, we had to walk along narrow paths among the grand structures. This reminded me of a story in the Bible where Moses desired to see God’s glory. The only way Moses could see that glory, was to be put in a cleft of a rock. Our wonderful God in heaven, lives in unapproachable light. We cannot see him, or we will be destroyed instantly, because we are sinful. However, it was not just any rock that God spoke about to Moses. Notice in this verse, that Moses is placed in the rock, and covered with God’s hand. That Rock represents Jesus. Only when our life is hidden in Jesus can we approach the throne of the Almighty. In that Rock, is our only safety, for there, we are covered with the righteousness of Jesus. This enables us to have a relationship with God the Father. Keep your life hidden in that Rock.
