As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you… Isaiah 66:13 NIV
My mother was a testament to powerful, lasting love. When we were abandoned, evicted and homeless, my mother prayed constantly and worked tirelessly to provide for us. She strived to find us a home, she went without food, clothes and basic necessities herself to ensure we had enough. At the time of my birth she was almost starving to death. Her lonely night vigils when we were ill, her long hours of sewing to clothe us, her comfort in our sorrows, her ability to make meals on a shoestring budget, her long walks to clean other people’s homes, so we would have enough money, demonstrate her care. When we grew up, she was willing to share anything she had if we were in need and continued to love us no matter how wayward we were. She helped in our homes, encouraged us and prayed for us, until she breathed her last breath. This selfless love shows a small picture of what God is like. His unselfish love and sacrifice paid the price for our redemption. He watches over his children and all that grieves our soul touches his heart. Go to him, kneel at his feet and be encircled by his comfort and care.
