When I was fourteen, I told my mother that she was not to tell me what to do any more. I was old enough to make my own decisions and if she told me what to do, I would do the opposite. My mother was stunned but wisely didn’t challenge this daring statement. Instead, she replied, “Oh really? Is it alright if I advise you?” After thinking a few minutes, I said, ” Okay, but I might not do what you suggest.” In reality I had little understanding of life, people or the pitfalls before me. It would have been much wiser to listen to my mother all the time. She had been over the road before me and was a true woman of faith. God’s understanding is limitless, and if we allow him to direct our path, it will spare us much pain, heartache and sorrow.
