Everyday Promises -277

Humility

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Psalm 25:9 NIV

I once had a wonder sponge. It was a solid little brick of sponge, but it could suck up copious amounts of liquid and saved the day many times. I loved it. That dry sponge is a good illustration of humility. Humility is having a realistic and modest view of oneself. Pride, on the other hand is a belief in the superiority of one’s own qualities and achievements. Being proud is like being a sponge that is saturated and totally full of self-importance. There is no possibility of taking in more. Humility, like the dry sponge, allows our lives to soak up the Water of Life. God has promised to guide the humble, not because he loves them more but because they are willing to be taught and directed by the King of Kings, whose understanding no one can fathom. To gain the blessings of this promise we must choose if we are a wet, or a dry sponge. The choice is yours.
