Everyday Promises – 285

You keep my lamp burning

You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Psalm 18:28 NIV

As a little kid I was rather scared of the dark. I was even scared of the dark space under my bed. At night when I went into my dark room, I leapt onto my bed from a long way back because a hand might come out of the darkness and grab my legs. We also had to make the trek to the little outhouse before bedtime. How thankful I was for a torch. We all live in the shadowlands of this world. A dark, foreboding and meaningless place without God. He lights a lamp in every heart when he comes to dwell with us. That light brightens up our whole existence. We then see clearly, our purpose, our worth, our potential, and our need for his presence. When we face tragedy or trouble, instead of being overwhelmed God can guard the little light that burns in our soul. We may be pummelled and battered but God will not let that little light be extinguished, for he has promised to keep it burning. Trust in the Lord to bring you safely through all the difficulties of this life and into his kingdom of light. You are precious to him, and he will not let you go.
