He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15 NIV
There are times in our lives when we face insurmountable problems. King Jehoshaphat felt like that when the Kings of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir came against him with a vast army. Instead of being discouraged, or fearful he turned his eyes to the Lord. He encouraged all the people of Judah to fast and pray. He reminded God of his past care and asked him to rescue them in their hour of great peril. Through a prophet the reply came back in the form of our promise today. I just love those last few words of the verse. ‘For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’ You might not be a king of Judah, but God cares for you in just the same way. Go to him with all your wants, difficulties and problems. No matter how big they are God has a thousand ways to work on your behalf. Don’t look at the trouble but turn your eyes to the Lord. Earnestly ask him for his help and thank him for all he will do. Then trust yourself to his wonderful care, for he will not fail you.
