Everyday Promises – 327

The Lord is near to all who call.

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18 NIV

As a rule, Alice worked with a companion in her new job as a door-to-door Christian book seller. One particular day, she found herself alone and in a part of town that was hard and unwelcoming. She prayed earnestly that God would help her and protect her as she worked for him. Her first house was large and imposing. She knocked, and two huge guard dogs came with the owner to the door. The dogs were unusually quiet, and this made the woman invite Alice inside. However, she placed two chairs out instead of one, and she asked the empty chair some questions. Alice seemed to hear soft replies from the other chair. She and the unseen companion were asked to stay for lunch. As they left the woman placed a friendly hand on each of the bookseller’s shoulders. Although Alice never saw the angel that had been with her throughout the visit, she knew that her experience was to assure her of the Lord’s constant care and help. God hears the faintest whispers of our heart. In love and care he sends help to all who call upon him.
