Everyday Promises – 342

My cup overflows

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23:5 NIV

Living in the shadowlands that are ruled by the Prince of Darkness means we live in the domain of the enemy, but this promise assures us that God can still fill our lives with his bounty. The Lord God is a shield and rampart for his children, so although the enemy seeks to destroy us, we can safely sit at the table the Father provides for us. As his guest we are under his protection. In ancient times oil was poured on the head of a guest by the host, to refresh and restore them. Every possible luxury was served at his table, to ensure that the visitor was abundantly satisfied. The cup of hospitality was overflowing. Do you want this promise to be true in your life? Then go to the Lord’s table. His food and drink are available everyday. When we drink deeply from the ever flowing fountain of his Holy Spirit and eat the bread of life from God’s Holy Word, our lives are enriched with a deep abiding peace, that satisfies the hunger of the soul. In his great love for us, the Father also lavishes every blessing upon his children, to meet our daily needs and heal the wounds sustained in this life. Listen! The Lord is calling you to come to his table. So come and be satisfied.
