I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” Jeremiah 31:25 NIV
Running from Queen Jezebel who promised to take his life, Elijah ran out of town and into the wilderness. He was overwrought, exhausted and afraid. Eventually he could go no further and sat down under a tree. He lamented that he was still alive and promptly fell asleep. Later the angel of the Lord woke him up and gave him food and water. He went to sleep again and the angel of the Lord woke him a second time and gave him more food and water. Although Elijah was in the wrong place and failed to have faith in God, the Lord did not turn away from him or rebuke him. Instead he cared for Elijah’s needs. Psalms 103: 13, 14 says As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. Our loving Father in heaven is a God of tender care and mercy. He knows when we are worn out and longs to give us rest. No matter how carefully we look after our health sometimes we still come to the end of our rope. Turn to him when you are depleted of all energy and rest in his presence both physically and emotionally. Ask him to revive your soul and restore your strength for he has promised to refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.
