Christ's Triumphal Procession

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.  2 Corinthians 2:14 NIV

On a recent trip to Denmark I was lucky enough to see a parade of the Danish Royal Guards marching to Amalienborg Palace for the changing of the guard. Long ago the Romans had parades too. A triumphal procession was a state occasion to celebrate a victorious General returning home. The parade consisted of captives, the spoils of war, the conquering General and his soldiers. Crowds came to learn of the victories and celebrate Rome’s success. Christ is the conquering hero in the battle against evil. He has won the victory over Satan at the cross. This verse promises that we, his willing captives, are part of the triumphal procession past the world’s onlookers. The all-surpassing, glorious conquest of Jesus will be shown to all the world through our witness. What a privilege to be a part his triumphal procession.
