The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom… 2 Timothy 4:18 NIV
The people at our local church decided to help our family after we were abandoned by my dad. They offered to pay the rent on a tiny house for us. Welfare in those days was not enough to live on, and Mum skimped on food herself to feed my three siblings. She had no washing machine and one of my sister’s was still in nappies. She was heavily pregnant with me and had to bend over the bath to wash the family clothes. This became so painful that she found a little secondhand wringer washing machine and paid it off a few shillings at a time. One day one of the church elders came to see Mum and was incensed at finding the washing machine. He insisted that if Mum had money for a washing machine, then she had money for the rent too and so the church stopped helping us. We were soon homeless again, but Mum never gave up or turned against the church, or God, even after such a heartless demonstration. Mum insisted right through her life that we must never look at people but only look at Jesus. The Devil tries to attack us in many ways, but Jesus will rescue us from every evil attack and keep us walking the path of faith if we will but keep our eyes on him.
I am speechless over this man’s heartless treatment of a little deserted family let aline a pregnant woman. I feel deeply for his own wife and children. May God be more merciful to him than what he dished out.
