Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death. Psalm 68:20 NIV

Here is a verse that promises escape from death, but I am sure you can attest to the millions of Christians who have died, throughout the ages, because of their faithfulness to God. Be assured that God’s word always proves true so let us look a little deeper into the meaning of this text. The Bible makes reference to a first and a second death. The first death is the one that happens at the end of our life. The first death is referred to by Jesus as a sleep and is not final for a Christian. When Jesus returns the Bible says we will be raised to life. The second death is total annihilation when God deals with sin forever. God offers to rescue us from the second death, and he can do this because he stepped into time and took that second death on himself in our place. So, he is a God who saves. He alone in all the world can bring escape from eternal death. He offers it to you now.
