Following The Evidence #47

So, who or what do you trust today? Google, Facebook, YouTube, twitter. Unfortunately, these sources are polluted wells – sometimes sewers – and we need to be careful from where we drink. Can we trust the press? These are the guys that give us the information! Can we trust celebrities, politicians, priests, teachers, the list could be endless? Unfortunately, we know corruption exists at every level in society.

Have you ever wondered why our leaders of one kind or another, are all sworn into their office of leadership by swearing on the Bible – not the phone book or dictionary. Why? Tradition – yes but why? They recognised that the Bible is an Authority – the highest Authority!

Until 1450 the Bible was copied by hand. Although the Chinese had invented printing centuries earlier, printing came to Europe with the “invention” of the Guttenberg press. The very first book to be printed in Europe was the Bible.

Concerning the authority of the Bible which was only the Old Testament when Paul wrote these words to Timothy’ “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…” (2 Tim 3:16). Peter said something similar, “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts…” 2Peter 1:19-21

We have already explored the value of predictive prophecy for establishing the credibility of God. Both Peter and Paul in these texts have assured us that the word of God gives us a solid foundation from which we can deal with the issues of life. If there is no standard by which we can measure truth, then truth is subjective, and we can be blown about like reeds in the wind.

This question of inspiration is no light one. It involves tremendously grave consequences. If the Bible is not the Word of God and inspired, the whole of Christianity, for 2,000 years, and the Hebrew faith for nearly 4,000years, has been under an immense delusion; half of humanity has been cheated and deceived, and churches are monuments of folly. However, if the Bible is the Word of God and inspired, all who refuse to believe it are in fearful danger; life is the place and time where we make our decisions for eternity! No man, in his sober senses, can fail to see that this whole subject demands most serious attention.
