Let’s look at another story that will enlighten our understanding of what is going on in the world. In this story we will see the battle going on between the powers of good and evil. In Matthew 13 Jesus tells a series of parables. One concerns a field of wheat that an enemy sow’s weeds (Tares) in. Jesus clearly explains that the bad things in our world are sown by the devil: “Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.” Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed. The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil.

The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels. Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” (Matt 13:36-43 NLT)

Who does Jesus say is responsible for all the bad things (tares) in the world?
The devil! While God is trying to show love and kindness to everyone, there is another power at work in this world bringing disaster, tragedy, death, and sickness into the lives of God’s children.

The war that began in heaven, was perpetuated on earth by our original parents who followed lucifer into his rebellion. “But” you say, “I had nothing to do with that!” This is true, but you also had nothing to do with Jesus reversing the situation (we call it redemption). You were lost in Adam and saved in Christ and you had nothing to do with either. Your eternal destiny hinges on the choice you make for who you will align your life with, the devil or Christ.
