Following The Evidence #7

Imagine a chimpanzee randomly typing “IN THE BEGINNING GOD” 20 Letters and spaces in order. The probability of choosing the letter ‘I’ first would be: 1 in 27. (That is 26 letters and 1 space)

To get ‘IN’ would be 1 in 27 x 27 (729). The probability for all 20 in order = 2.36 x 1029 or about 1 in 50,000 trillion, trillion! If you made 1 billion attempts each second, then you don’t even have enough seconds in the assumed history of the universe to complete it – assuming an evolutionary age of the universe to be 14 Billion years or so.

We have been discussing how we live in an incredibly fine-tuned universe. We also noted Dr Freeman Dyson’s statement, “The more I examine the universe, and the details of its architecture, the more evidence I find that the Universe in some sense must have known we were coming.” This planet was designed for life. Isaiah from the Old Testament said, “For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place.

He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos. “I am the Lord,” he says, “and there is no other.” Isaiah.45:18 NLT

Remember also the statement of Antony Flew, the converted Atheist who said that “atheism itself has a number of propositions that have to be accepted by faith, e.g. that something (the universe) came from nothing, non-living matter evolved into living cells by random chemistry, complex specified information arose without intelligence, morality arose by natural selection, etc.” “What I think the DNA material has done is that it has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce (life), that intelligence must have been involved in getting these extraordinarily diverse elements to work together.” “The only satisfactory explanation of such ‘end directed, self-replicating’ life as we see on earth is an infinitely intelligent Mind.” “It has become inordinately difficult even to begin to think about constructing a naturalistic theory of evolution of that first reproducing organism.” “I had to go where the evidence leads.”

In this series we will explore what is the ultimate question of life. Together we will discover the reality of God in ways that will withstand scrutiny. One of the first disciples of Jesus said to his friend “Come and see” (John 1:46). That is my invitation to you regarding the existence of God; “Come and see” evaluate the evidence.
