21 Sep Meditations on the Psalms #355
Christmas Reflections Part 5
A very glorious hope and reality. Our God, the same yesterday, today, and forever. Loving beyond measure, gracious beyond reason, merciful beyond hope. I feel amazingly loved this morning by my God. Thanks for a very special revelation of God.
On 24th April 1901, the Dutch steamship Tambora ran aground on a submerged reef and sank in the West Indies. The next day people from the small Island rowed out to scavenge. One man arrived after all the good things had been claimed and he had to settle for a bundle of coloured paper. After he had dried it out, he decided he would line the inside of his small hut with the paper.
A few months later a Chinese merchant stopped for his regular trading visit.
The man who found coloured paper looked over the merchant’s good’s and said, “I’d like some needles and a couple of spools of that thread.”
“What do you have to trade?” asked the merchant
“I have no money, but I have something that you’ll like. I have a very fine large fishbone.”
“A fishbone? I don’t have much use for a fishbone” huffed the merchant.
“But you must see it! Come to my hut.”
So, the merchant reluctantly followed the man to his simple dwelling. As he entered, the merchant’s eyes almost popped out when he saw the coloured paper on the man’s walls. The man that thought his most valuable possession was a fishbone actually had $40,000 worth of Dutch banknotes plastered on his walls. He was living in the middle of a fortune that was worthless until he recognized its value.
So are we all! Before us stretches the immensity of eternity offered to us in Christ as a gift. Before the Inn of your heart, wanting to be born again, stands the King of Universe.
The true peace announced by the angels in Bethlehem is allowing Jesus into our lives. You are the Inn Keeper; before the door of your heart stands the “Prince of Peace!”
Luke.2:14(NIV) “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom His favour rests.” As Paul says we can have ”peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Rom 5:1. We can have the “peace of God that surpasses understanding.” (Phil 4:7) This is the missing peace in our world today. The door of choice is yours!
