When Jesus was on the cross psalm 31 must have been on his mind because it was one of the 2 psalms he quoted from. Out of the darkness he said v5 “Into thy hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God. ” it is a psalm of undulating emotions from when David was pursued by Saul in the wilderness. V2 “be thou a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me…. v7 I will rejoice and be glad for your steadfast love because you have seen my affliction you have taken heed of my adversities… be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in destress; my eye is wasted from grief, my soul and my body also. For my life is spent from sorrow, and my years from sighing; my strength fails because of my misery, and my bones waste away… I have become like a broken vessel… but I trust in you, O Lord, I say, “you are my God. ” deliver me from the hands of my enemies and persecutors… v24 be strong and let your heart take courage, all who wait for the Lord. ” This psalm was important to Jesus in his greatest trial. May it be so to you also.
