In a sermon probably preached by Paul and written down by someone else we read in Hebrews 4:14ff “… let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we might receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” The buccaneer of the universe would like to steel our faith. He would like to board our vessel and steal our treasure. Our treasure is our place in the family of God as sons and daughters. It includes the jewels of faith, hope, love, peace and eternal assurance. As Peter said “resist him!”(1Pet 5:9) As Paul said to Timothy I have fought the good fight. Hence forth their us laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2Tim 4:7-8 Even so come Lord Jesus.
