The Bible is a chronical of God’s dealing with a rebellious planet. Isaiah 53 pictures the suffering servant who would step out of the immensity of eternity and become a man to seek and save the lost. Here was the infinite God walking within the bounds if time! Calling as he did to our first parents, “Where are you man?” Herein lies our victory. “Surely, he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole and with his stripes we are healed.” Isa 53:4-5. Jesus was treated as we deserve so that we could be treated as he deserves. He was condemned for our sins in which he had no share, so that we might be justified by his righteousness in which we have no share. He suffered the death, which was ours, so that we might receive the life that was his.
