Minute Meditations of Hope and Encouragement #19

Let me try on you a few obvious platitudes that you know but often either forget or ignore.
The most powerful thing in the world is goodness. You doubt it? Think of the people you know. Think of the little history you have absorbed along the way. Have the dictators won out? Are you off to visit Adolf’s Auschwitz memorial camp tomorrow? Guess not. What about Stalin? Mussolini, Idi Amin, etc.? What is the difference between them and the people you trust?

Why did Wilberforce win out? Why did folks give millions to Mother Teresa? Why is Florence Nightingale remembered? Francis of Assisi? Aristotle was one of the smartest men who ever lived, but I doubt that the thought of him stirs your pulse.
But Jesus of Nazareth? Well, that’s different. Exactly. Goodness is mightier than armies. So why be good?
