Minute Meditations of Hope and Encouragement #63

Psalm 102 is contrasted with 103. 102 is a prayer of the afflicted, “Hear my prayer o Lord; let my cry come to thee! Do not hide thy face from me in the day of distress! Incline thy ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call…my heart is smitten like grass… I am like a bird of the wilderness, like an owl in the waste places; I lie awake, I am like a lonely bird on a house top…” The prayer of a depressed spirit changes to exultant praise in 103. The mopping owl becomes a souring eagle v:5 “so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.“ Psalm 103 is a crescendo of praise that reaches to all the angelic hosts. Ps 102 was written at the end of the Babylonian captivity. We have our own captivities and need psalm 103 to balance life when everything is wrong (Ps102) “He will regard the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their supplication.” ( 102:17)… to hear the groans of the prisoners…”
