One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.” Psalm 62:11-12 NIV

We once lived in a house that backed onto a mountain escarpment. It made for pleasant views by day but the best time to watch that cliff face was in a thunderstorm. The incredible power of cracking lightning, deep booming thunder and wild wind and rain never ceased to make my hair stand on end with fear and my soul thrill with the awesome display of might. This verse today tells us that power belongs to God but contrary to worldly power, where might and evil seem to go hand in hand, God’s power is underpinned by love. We will face a judgment one day soon, but you can depend on our great God to be both just and righteous in all his dealings with mankind.
